Last week (Saturday to Saturday), my friends and I hopped on a plane and escaped the chilly spring weather here in Auckland. We went to Nouméa, New Caledonia, to relax on the beach and forget about upcoming exams.

Beautiful, isn't it? |
The view from the hotel. |

This is the national bird of New Caledonia, the cagou. It's a flightless bird and sadly, endangered. However, these two are safe in a wildlife reserve. The one with the outstretched wings is the mama, and the other one is her baby. |
Albino peacocks. Not shy at all, this one walked right up to me. |
A potato and bacon galette. Not mine. But tasty. |
My ham, tomato, mozzarella and goat's cheese galette - delicious, but too big, I ended up leaving half of it untouched. |
Some people were smart enough to order crêpes - they were light and not too filling. |
On the walk to the taxi boat that took us to a teensy little island where we went snorkeling. |
After our first night in the hotel, we left to live with home-stay families for about six nights. This is the view from their house. Cool, right? |
More pictures to come soon!
